Impact Stories

Wage Transformation

Before ZIBAWU intervention: Workers received 100% of salaries in ZWL (Zimbabwe Dollar), losing value due to inflation.

After ZIBAWU action: 70% of salaries now paid in USD, protecting purchasing power and improving living standards.

Job Security Victories

ZIBAWU successfully challenged major bank mergers (ZB and CBZ), protecting jobs and ensuring fair treatment of affected workers. Negotiated voluntary retrenchment packages providing 2 months’ pay for every year of service.

Legal Protection

From workplace disciplinary hearings to the Constitutional Court, ZIBAWU has successfully represented hundreds of members, with a 93% success rate in cases handled.

Sector Expansion

ZIBAWU now represents not just banks, but also microfinance institutions and building societies in Commercial Sector negotiations, expanding protection to more workers.

Member Statistics

ZIBAWU continues to grow as a strong, inclusive, and representative union within Zimbabwe’s financial sector. Our membership reflects a healthy balance between men and women, with strong participation from young workers across the country.

These figures demonstrate ZIBAWU’s commitment to gender equity, youth inclusion, and broad representation within the financial services industry. The active involvement of women and young workers continues to strengthen the union’s advocacy, leadership, and solidarity efforts across all levels.
