ZIBAWU runs strategic campaigns to address critical issues affecting workers in Zimbabwe’s financial sector. Through mobilization, advocacy, and collective action, we fight for fair wages, safe workplaces, and worker dignity.
Current Campaigns
Campaign Against Low Wages
Objectives:
- Push for living wages that keep pace with inflation
- Achieve full USD salaries for all financial sector workers
- Eliminate wage disparities between institutions
- Secure regular cost-of-living adjustments
Recent Wins: Successfully negotiated 70% USD salaries and 15% wage increases in 2023.
End Sexual Harassment Campaign
Objectives:
- Zero tolerance for sexual harassment in the workplace
- Mandatory training for all employees and managers
- Clear reporting mechanisms and protection for victims
- Strict enforcement of anti-harassment policies
Stop Gender-Based Violence Campaign
Objectives:
- Raise awareness about GBV in the workplace and community
- Support survivors with counseling and legal assistance
- Advocate for stronger legal protections
- Engage men as allies in ending GBV
Equality, Justice & Human Rights Campaign
Objectives:
- Promote equality, justice, and respect for all workers regardless of gender, position, or background
- Uphold human rights and fair treatment in every workplace
- Strengthen anti-discrimination and anti-bullying measures
- Ensure that dignity and fairness remain central to labour relations
Workplace Health & Safety Campaign
Objectives:
- Enforce occupational health and safety standards
- Ensure COVID-19 and health emergency preparedness
- Address mental health and workplace stress
- Improve ergonomics and workplace conditions
Stop Casualisation Campaign
Objectives:
- Cap fixed-term contracts to maximum 4 years
- Convert long-term casual workers to permanent positions
- Ensure equal pay for equal work
- Eliminate labour broking practices
Recent Win: Successfully capped fixed-term contract renewals in the banking sector.
